I have to put this comment in. Victoria has done wonders for my nephew when i could do no more to help him, they took over and put my mind at ease, shutting this school would be a tradegy. The teachers and support staff are top class. Thanks for all you have done for my nephew xxx Lea

I went to Viccy primary from 1975 and have great memories of it. I now live in Thailand (for many years now).
Is the anchor bakery still near? and the chip shop along the road? Is Tony's and Sissons still at the bottom of the hill?

Dont close it!

I did my work experience with the P6/7s and it was definitely the best week of school. Both Miss Thomson and Mrs. Avery were very kind and accommodating and gosh were the P6/7s really friendly. I’m so happy we are getting the Victoria Primary P7s. I'm sure I will go and visit the new P7s soon.

Hey,
I went to this school a while ago and was wondering what happened to Mrs Farrell, Miss Macgregor and the old head teacher?

I attended Victoria, during the mid sixties, the highlight for me was when our class won a competition against other Edinburgh Schools. We had done a project on Newhaven and its history. If my memory serves me right we won a cash award for the school, got our picture in the local paper, and ultimately brought the idea of an actual Newhaven Museum onto the agenda which i'm happy to say became a reality some years later. Who remembers Mr Glendinning.

I was a pupil from 1943 to 1948. Loved the school. Mackie Cup (football) won during this time. Girls good at 'overhead ball'. Forefront in teaching methods using system of 'assignments' whereby if you finished your assignment you could do what you wanted (within reason). Would be a shame if the school were to close.

My maiden name was Gear, and both myself and two sisters attended the school in the late 60's and 70's. We all live in Southern England, but have never forgotten our roots nor the special time at Victoria School. Newhaven needs to retain its sense of community, and the school certainly keeps that going. Good luck, keep the school open so that it benefits future generations.

I am very unhappy at the decision to close Victoria Primary School. I know that it is a popular local school, at the heart of the community. As the local MP, I would like to express my full support for the campaign against the closure.

We must keep the school open, the two churches are now closed and we are going to lose our community if we don't fight for the school to remain open.

I attended Victoria primary school in 1946,the standard of education even then was very high,it shaped me and made me what I am today. Please do not close the school and deprive others of a high standard of education.

I attended Victoria Primary school in about 1958 for 3 years. I have fond memories, but I do remember receiving the belt a few times from Mr Glendinning ( ding dong as he was known).
I remember at playtime sliding down the huge boulder outside the old Peacock Hotel. In reality its not really that big.
I am now 57 and have run my own company for over 30 years building new houses.
I hope Victoria is not shut down and I would have thought that with all the new houses at Gregor Shore that keeping it would have been essential.

Victoria Primary School should be kept open for the children of today and our future, I have a 10 month old, who I would love to attend a school such a school.

Keep the school open - I am sure there are many other ways of cutting costs which will not have a direct hit on quality of schooling for children.

Victoria Primary School in Newhaven has been the locus of two of my grandchildren who have both benefited from the reduced class size and excellent academic environment which the school provides. To dispence with this excellent facility would be most irrational and short sighted in the extreme. The facilty which the school provides, close to where it is required, is something which should not be abandoned lightly and further more would benefit from an intake from less successful schools adding to the educational needs of other children which have not enjoyed a quality of education which Victoria Primary provides.

Hi ... I am so pleased to see the old school is thriving and serving the community well. I did wonder over the years if you still existed, and thanks to the internet my question has been answered.

I was a pupil there in the 1960's and still have fond memories of my time there. Mrs Frazer was my teacher, and Mrs Robinson and also, i think, Mrs Steele were headmistresses. Keep up the good work kids ... its great to see.

Kind regards

Hello!
My name is Roy Alexander and I have been responsible for the initial set up of this web site for Victoria Primary. Im keen to hear from anyone who is involved in and around the school with any ideas or suggestions that they think the website could be used for.
You can email me by clicking on my name above, so say you are perhaps a pupil and you've done something really cool at school and you want everyone to read about it, then let me know, or if anyone parents, teachers or whoever thinks they got a good idea about anything to do with the school then I'm keen to hear from you
Thanks
Roy
